I-Drive Live Attractions to open New Year’s Eve 2014
The developer of International Drive’s newest attractions set a goal to start 2015 out with a bang — and an observation wheel, Central Florida News 13 reports. Unicorp National Developments Inc. principal Chuck Whittall told News 13 that he plans to open the $200 million I-Drive Live development’s main attraction, the 425-foot Orlando Eye observation wheel, on New Year’s Eve 2014. The foundations on the wheel were poured in June and the first pieces of steel are expected to go up in the fall, Whittall told me in a previous interview.
Meanwhile, Whittall also said he wanted the two Merlin Entertainments Group Ltd. attractions — the 25,000-square-foot Madame Tussauds wax museum and the 25,000-square-foot Sea Life Aquarium — to open at the same time as the Orlando Eye.
Several restaurants signed for the development are slated to open in March, including Yard House, a first in Central Florida, along with Seafood Republic by Orlando restaurateur Bobby Moore, Buffalo Wild Wings, Outback Steakhouse and Carrabba’s Italian Grill.
Construction began on the project earlier this year.
